Right Now
Right now my world seems small
I am daughter
I am mother
I am wife
I hold my mother's hand
Hold my breath
Hold onto love
I make meals
Do laundry
Wash dishes
Rinse, dry, repeat
I go online
Encourage
And connect
My friends are patient
My husband understanding
I work
And sometimes work is rest
A respite
I write, a little
It's not what I intended
But it is good
I pray
Read the Word
Reflect, respond
I am God's child
Christ's bride
Part of the body
This is a season
Of boundaries but not bondage
I am learning as I live
I am standing on the edge of the universe

Wow. I saw myself here.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure there is a higher compliment, Tracy. Thank you. Stay strong in the Lord; He is our helper.
DeleteSo good Susan! Rinse, dry, repeat. Taking care of what is right in front of us. Pure presence.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynn. You put yet another spin (washing pun intended) on this with "pure presence." I like it!
DeleteI blog, therefore I am. And if you want to read more about being a body part in Christ, check out my blog about Weird Al's song "Pancreas." What a hoot it is.
ReplyDeleteWeird Al himself is a hoot, Bruce. My son is a big fan and even saw him in concert a couple of years ago. I'm very familiar with Pancreas and enjoyed reading your post.
DeleteI felt this. I really did. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting, Chrys, and for sharing the experience of the poem ❤️
DeleteYou sound very big, Susan. "Wife, mother, daughter"--that alone includes daunting duties.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are daunting, Jacqui. Thanks for the encouragement ❤️
DeleteThis is a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lynda 🤗
DeleteSusan, LOVE this piece -- that last line does it for me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brenda; I'm rather fond of it myself 🤗
DeleteBeautiful, Susan. Just like you! Thank you for sharing with me. Love you!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you. I'm sure I love you too, Unknown! 🤗
DeleteHi Susan. I love how poems can spring from us. Simple yet memorable and powerful. The following lines are poignant and real. "This is a season
ReplyDeleteOf boundaries but not bondage..." Please keep reflecting, my friend.
Thank so much, Alan. It's true that this poem flowed out of me almost without effort, like a gift. I will keep reflecting 😊
DeleteLove this!:
ReplyDeleteThis is a season
Of boundaries but not bondage
I am learning as I live
---so true!
Thank you, gentle reader 😊
DeleteI also saw myself as I read your poem, Susan Barclay. The poem in its entirety spoke to me, but especially the last part. “This is a season of boundaries/ but not bondage/I am learning as I live//I am standing on the edge of the universe.”
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I always appreciate hearing from you!
DeleteThanks for such a poignant poem, Susan! I too related to your line that "This is a season of boundaries / but not bondage." Profound!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind feedback and encouraging words, Sandi 🤗
DeleteBeautifully written poem, dear Susan. Just beautiful. It described my life last year and the year before. I couldn't believe the extent my schedule had been hijacked by labors of love that I had no choice but to complete. I don't regret the interruptions. And I learned that even little bits of writing in small blocks of time go a long way.
ReplyDeleteBlessings as you continue to grab your pen and run with words whenever you can ~ Wendy Mac
Thanks so much, Wendy, for letting me know how the poem resonated with you. Yes, it is exactly as you describe for me as well: labors of love requiring completion. May you be blessed as well as you write between the cracks, standing on the edge of the universe.
