My Shadow Mentors
When I consider who
Shadow mentored me
I think of all the books I’ve read
Since I first learned to read
It started with Dr. Seuss
Who showed me words are fun
And then there was Trixie Belden books
About finding the guilty one

When I consider who
Shadow mentored me
I think of Catherine Marshall
And her famous book: Christy
There’s also her nonfiction
Which taught me Christ is close
When I’m humble and honest
Within the prayers I pose

When I consider who
Shadow mentored me
I must nod to all the books I’ve read
For they’re part of my history.
