As an Art teacher for many...Judy Reeves is spot on! As an Art teacher for many years, I taught my students how to critique works of Art. Much of the time it was based on observation and appreciation, but when it came to their own work, it was sometimes difficult for them to hear suggestions. they often took it as criticism. Practice, however, was the key to help them see that suggestions are there to improve the piece, not tear it apart. It is the same with writing. if all we see is 'what's wrong'.
