Time By T. L. Wiens

I wish I could say I have something amazing to share with you—some insight about writing that would touch your heart. I don’t.

Instead I am exhausted and my mind is on my maternity ward in my barn. We’re lambing on one end and calving on the other.

I’ve spent the last couple of months assisting in the planning of His Imprint Writer’s Conference. There’s been exciting times updating the website, creating brochures and posters, answering questions that come in…whatever comes my way.

When I’m not doing that, I’m helping my daughter with her tea company, Jenna’s Steapin Party. Did you know every tea has a story? I’ve finally finished putting together the tea half of the catalogue.

There is still the trucking company we run and the editing I do to take up any spare time. And of course, my granddaughter. She can override the needs of all the above.

Time—it’s always my enemy when it comes to my writing.

  1. ...yet with your time you are gaining experience and fodder! I love your honesty. Will there be a tea-story book coming out?

  2. You just wrote a journal entry that will be very meaningful to you in years to come. Someday you will look back on this and read it and it will bring back memories of projects and people that were important to you. So there - good writing, Tammy!

  3. Lol
Thank you Janet. Some of the tea stories are quite entertaining.
And working with sheep really does give you new insight into human behaviour.
    You're right Pam!

  4. Oh, those exciting nights in the barn. On our midnight forays, we were assisting as needed the sows give birth. I can remember doing the 3:00 a.m. checking. If one of the sows was getting close, I'd get one of our teenagers to assist. We had many an interesting conversation on a bale of straw and many good laughs when the pigs were farrowing.

When life is busy, at least a person has something to write about.

  5. I'm so relieved I'm a city gal. Just sayin'.

Blessings on your busy season, and on all those with farms who are in the birthing season. May the Lord shine his light on the hands that bring new life into this world!

  6. your first comment was wrong - you did touch my heart. It's great to know others have a full plate too. Most of us write best when under pressure, with a deadline. Great blog.

  7. Tammy,
Understanding completely. As you "delight yourself in the Lord" I stand with you in prayer - to be at peace, enjoy His presence and live in His Word.
    Blessings,
    Janis

  8. As others have said, Tammy, we can all relate. It's often hard if not impossible to carve out the time to write yet we do it, through the power and strength of Christ who has called us to it. Praying the lambing/calving goes well. I know it is a hard/rewarding/stressful/wonderfultime for farmers. :)

  9. Judging from the responses, this little post struck a cord! I think we all feel overwhelmed at times with the 'to do' list, and as you said, real life often takes precedence over the writing life. But as Pamela pointed out, these busy times are also fodder for writing!

  10. I agree with all the comments. We never know the tapestry that God is weaving through real life. As long as we're doing even the most miniscule thing with gusto and for God's glory, He will be glorified.

  11. Thanks for your honesty Tammy. I once belonged to a small religious group in which we each had to stand and give a "testimony" (brief devotional)every Sunday morning and Wednesday night. It could be challenging to prepare for these with five children and a long-haul trucking husband. I remember doing just what you've done here...stating the truth. In this community of writers, it's so appreciated to hear we're not alone in our busy-ness, and your transparent writing is a breath of fresh air!

  12. Tammy,

Your life sounds rich and full. No doubt one day there will be time for writing about it.

I agree with Pam that this posting is a great journal entry, something to keep for future remembering of this season of life.

And, in truth, you are writing... what with updating websites and creating brochures and tea catalogs. Your writing is all part of the big writing carousal which helps make the world go round.

After all, what would we do without catalogs to inform and tantalize us?

So glad you found a little time to share with us here. Hope things are well in your maternity ward in the barn.
